Prevention & Caring For Dry Skin

Posted by Bio-First Team on

Skin is our largest organ and dry skin is the biggest skin problem. Why?

Because it's sensitive to both internal and external factors:

Internal External
poor diet low humidity
health issues sun exposure
medications wind effect
bad circulation irritants
alcohol use pollution
hormonal activity products
age and stage heating
gender air conditioning

So it follows that preventing and caring for dry skin involves:

* nutritious eating (with protein and omega 3)
* ample sleep for overnight skin repair
* sun protection
* regular exercise for circulation
* moderate alcohol - no smoking!
* limited temperature extremes
* careful skin care choices

In that regard the experts agree on using gentle products with:

humectants - naturally drawing in moisture (glycerin, honey)
emollients - natural oils to 'feed' the skin (argan oil etc)
biosimilars - natural moisturising factors (squalane)
soothing agents - natural skin calming (oatmeal, aloe)
barrier protection - naturally preventing moisture loss (jojoba)

While there's a world of difference between baby and granny dry skin, these basic principles apply to both and are the guide for anyone with this tendency. The climate you live in is a major influence but not easy to change so focus on what can be managed and stay out of chlorine pools. Using lovely oils in the bath or shower is great, and don't forget to drink plenty of water!

While there's a world of difference between face & hands are most at risk from dryness due to high exposures… they’re always ‘on show’ & need special care, meaning more use of suitable products, more often.
