Role of the Skin Cycle and Managing Blemish Prone Skin

The skin cycle is the time it takes for old skin cells to be replaced by new ones. On average, it’s a month, similar to the menstrual cycle.

The skin cycle is the time it takes for old skin cells to be replaced by new ones. On average, it’s a month, similar to the menstrual cycle.

Skin Cell turnover times by age:

  • Teenagers: 10–21 days

  • 20s: 14–30 days

  • 30s: 28–45 days

  • 40s: 40–60 days

  • 50+: 50–90 days

As we age, the skin cycle slows dramatically, which must be considered in skin care and treatment expectations. While good skin care can deliver rapid visible improvements, fundamental changes to skin health may take up to 2 months, supported by diet, relaxation, and sun care.

To ensure that your skin is resilient to breakouts and build a resilient skin barrier function, Bio-First recommends regular daily use of the Blemish Ban range on an ongoing basis to support the fundamental changes required.
